The Gartmore Village Shop is a convenience store that sells groceries, off-licence beverages, newspapers and pharmaceutical products, as well as providing post-office facilities. The community set up a cooperative and bought the shop in 1998 – £25,000 was raised through local people buying £1 shares. Since then the shop has been able to pay a small dividend in the form of a shop voucher to its shareholders in some years.
The shop has a full-time manager, six part-time staff, four paperboys and a volunteer and in a recent development it has set up a wine store in the shop and a local wine club.
